Here is Eiichiro Oda’s full letter on the status of the live action from one piece:
“I’ve been working with Tomorrow Studios and Netflix for a while. Although they understand each of the characters, the reality is that we come from different cultures, so our codes, techniques and aspirations when it comes to entertainment are different. Which can be frustrating for everyone at times. It seemed that even though we had the same goal, we were vibrating at different frequencies. I even asked myself: ‘Is it even possible to do a production abroad?’
It may seem like this release comes out of nowhere, but the truth is that we’ve been working hard for a long time and now everyone involved in the production is on the same page. We finally made it!
Considering I didn’t buy a life, I think this might be my last chance to take the lead one piece To the whole world. And if we do, I want to use it while I’m still active to oversee the project. For this reason I agreed to an adaptation of in 2016 one piece with actors of flesh and blood.
Since then, Netflix has invested an enormous amount of resources into the production. Although it was announced that the premiere will be in 2023, they promised me that they will not premiere the series until I am satisfied with the result.
The entire cast and crew from different countries exude love one piece. Her passion is unwavering and I made it my mission to remind her that the most important thing is that the project is fun for everyone
We are in the final sprint! At the moment we are finishing all 8 episodes! We will be putting to sea very soon!”
