Guthali Laddu is a Bollywood social drama directed by Ishrat Khan. The film’s star cast includes Sanjay Mishra and Subrata Dutta in the lead roles. This film will be released on October 13th. However, controversy arose regarding the film’s trailer. A case has been filed against the film in the Gujarat High Court for unconstitutional and unparliamentary use of words and language against Valmiki Samaj in the trailer of this film. Now, the High Court has issued a notice to the producers of the film and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Petition filed in court
The court published a petition filed by Nimesh Vaghela through his lawyer Vishal Thakkar, seeking deletion of a word from the film, scheduled to release on October 13, and revocation of its certification. The plea said that by using the word, the film violated the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention and Atrocities) Act, 1989, which hurt the sentiments of the Valmiki community.

Valmiki alleges hurting the community’s sentiments
The petitioner said that he was not against the theme of the film but was against the use of offensive words as well as the CBFC’s decision to give the film a ‘U’ certificate. This word was used several times in the film’s trailer during the religious conversion between mother and son. The film ‘Guthli Laddu’ has described the suffering of a child of Valmiki community but at the same time the word Bhangi was often used silently and hurt the sentiments of the people of Valmiki community hence from the film as well as the trailer. Unparliamentary words should also be removed. Instead of these words, words that do not hurt anyone’s feelings should be used.

The hearing will take place on October 11th
The petition claims that the use of this word in the film could lead to large-scale violence and undermine efforts to maintain equality and social balance in the country. There have also been calls for immediate relief when the film hits theaters on October 13. Based on this application, the Gujarat High Court has immediately issued notice to the concerned parties, including the producers of the film ‘Guthali Laddu’, Panorama Films and Censor Board. The hearing in this case will take place on October 11th.
