Netflix new releases: April 2024

A car crash interview with a delusional prince, a new series adaptation starring Patricia Highsmith’s most infamous creation, the second part of Zack Snyder’s expensive space opera and a paranormal detective show set in Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed Sandman universe are among the big titles coming to Netflix in April.

Debuts April 4th RipleyNetflix’s shiny new version of Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel The talented Mr. Ripley. Fresh from the critical acclaim he received for it We are all strangersIrish actor Andrew Scott will take on the role of Tom Ripley in an adaptation that will be shown in black and white. The eight-part series also stars Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood and acting newcomer Eliot Sumner (son of Sting and Trudie Styler) as Freddie Miles. “Ripley,” written and directed by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian, was originally slated to debut on Showtime before finding a new home on Netflix.

The launch takes place on April 5th scoop, a feature film dramatization of perhaps one of the most embarrassing interviews ever televised. Directed by Philip Martin based on a script by playwright Peter Moffat, scoop features Prince Andrew’s infamous 2019 BBC interview with journalist Emily Maitlis. During the car crash interview, the prince attempted to explain his relationship with late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and defend himself against allegations of sexual assault. In the film, Gillian Anderson plays Maitlis and Rufus Sewell plays Prince Andrew.

On April 19, Zack Snyder will bring the second part of his $150 million-plus science fiction epic to the world Rebel Moon. The first part, Part One: A Child of Firedebuted on Netflix on December 22, 2023 and was among the streamer’s ten most-watched films this year, according to the company. Second part: The scar donor Kora and her team try to defend their home against the worst ravages of Motherworld. The second part once again features a large ensemble, including Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae and Ray Fisher. Cary Elwes and Anthony Hopkins also reprise their roles from the first film.

The DC Comics characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner Dead Boy Detectivesa pair of supernatural investigators who appeared in The Sandman Series will get its own spin-off live-action series debuting on Netflix on April 25th. The show is directed by George Rexstrew, who plays Edwin Payne, and Jayden Reri as Charles Rowland. The cast includes Kassius Nelson, Briana Cuoco and Ruth Connell. Dead Boy Detectives was originally scheduled to appear on Max, but moved to Netflix in February 2023. Gaiman’s The Sandman already lives on Netflix and the acclaimed author confirmed that both this show and Dead Boy Detectives will share the same universe.
