Italian hit “There’s Still Tomorrow” tops Italy’s Donatello nominations

Paola Cortellesi There is still another tomorrowa black-and-white feminist comedy that became Italy’s highest-grossing film last year is the frontrunner for the 2024 David Di Donatello Awards, Italy’s equivalent of the Oscars, with 19 nominations including best picture.

Cortellesi received a Donatello nomination for best directorial debut There is still another tomorrow, which overtook Barbie at the local box office and became an Italian cultural phenomenon. She also received nominations for Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay for the film, which she co-wrote with Furio Andreotti and Giulia Calenda.

The refugee drama by Matteo Garrone I am captainNominated for the Oscar for Italy this year in the Best International Feature Film category, it received 15 Donatello nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Garrone.

Alice Rohrwacher’s grave robber drama The Chimera received 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for lead actor Josh O’Connor. Marco Bellocchios Kidnapped, a drama about the true story of a Jewish boy taken from his family and forced to convert to Catholicism, received 11 nominations, including best picture and best director. Completing the Best Picture nominations is Nanni Moretti’s latest film. A brighter tomorrowwhich earned a total of 7 nominations.

Donatello’s best international film nominees include Oscar winners Christopher Nolan and Justine Triet Oppenheimer And Anatomy of a fallagainst Martin Scorsese Flower Moon KillerAki Kaurismäki’s droll Finnish dramedy Fallen leavesand the thriller set in Spain The beasts by director Rodrigo Sorogoyen.

The 69th David di Donatello Awards will take place on May 3rd at the legendary Cinecittà studios in Rome and will be broadcast live on Italian public broadcaster Rai 1.
