Mattel continues with Hot Wheels

In a recent update, JJ Abrams pointed out that Warner Bros. Discovery and Mattel are still developing the “hot tyres‘. On the other hand, The Hollywood Reporter points out that there have even been meetings with the directors, although there is no final version of the script.

The outlet also mentions that Mattel’s producers are hoping to keep the project’s momentum going, even as most of Hollywood is shut down due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, since the DGA (Directors Guild of America) ratified a new deal in June, they are free to strike deals with the studios.

The news comes just weeks after JJ Abrams became a producer on the upcoming film. Speaking to the New Yorker, Abrams described the film as “emotional, down to earth and dark”. For his part, Robbie Brenner, director of Mattel Films, said that the film“There will be real characters that you can relate to, that are three-dimensional and take emotional journeys.”.

Hot Wheels first hit stores in 1968 and remains one of the best-selling toys in the world to this day.
