There was a “significant” factor for this Blue Beetle According to Warner Bros. Pictures, the film produced dismal figures at the domestic box office in its opening weekend.
This week it was reported that the latest film in the DC Universe got off to a very negative start in the US and Canada, grossing just $25 million, making it the superhero franchise’s worst local debut as of 2023.
Last Sunday, Exhibitor Relations Co. shared a statement from Warner via social media, in which the distributor said it was expecting it Tropical Storm Hilary would have “significant impact” in cash register receipts Blue Beetle. Especially in cinemas in Southern California, including the city of Los Angeles, which is the most important market for the film starring Xolo Maridueña, along with New York, Dallas and San Francisco.
According to data from comicbook.comAccording to official sources, Hilary is the first tropical storm to hit southern California in more than 80 years, breaking virtually all daily rainfall records. In the specific case of Los Angeles, reports suggest that during the opening weekend of Blue Beetlethere was not only constant rain, but also floods, landslides and falling rocks.
The U.S. National Weather Service also warned of Hilary’s potentially deadly effects, while California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency over much of the state’s southern region (via NBC News). So Warner was able to predict that Blue Beetle would underperform at the box office without necessarily being an indicator of low popularity. The public simply preferred to stay safe at home.
