One of the best received aspects of Blue Beetle is dealing with emotions around the protagonist Jaime Reyes. In order to create endearing moments in the film, the producers had to introduce us to each and every member of the young hero’s family to give more meaning to his journey.
For this reason, Blue Beetle it showed the death of a character essential to the plot. Death, which, by the way, was not in the original script, but was added to the events of the tape at the request of DC Studios executives.

One of Jaime’s favorite people is his father Alberto, played by Damián Alcázar. His presence is one of the star’s main motives, but sadly he dies when villain Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon) leads an army to the House of Kings to kidnap the boy and gain control of the bug. Alberto’s death occurs when he suffers a heart attack, fearing the riot and worrying about the fate of his family.
Later in the film, the man is able to be reunited with his son as part of a poignant dream in which both are on the brink of losing their lives. Alberto pronounces Jaime with words of encouragement and empowerment. Also included is a tribute to Macariothe classic film by Roberto Gavaldón.

In an interview with collidersthe director revealed why he decided to create these scenes:
“Originally, no one was supposed to die in the film. But the studio kept up the pressure and finally convinced us. So we thought, “How can we do this?” [momento] Rock bottom with family members? And how come this burglary is not just another death in the superhero genre, but actually endows it with a power?’ Finally, what nudge does this reluctant hero need to embrace his destiny? As we began to understand that, we thought, ‘This could be a good opportunity to explore the magical realism in this sequence where Jaime is going to die.’”

“The loss of Alberto is not because something fell down and killed him. It’s actually the stress of losing everything you fought for. He crossed the border 20 years ago and is trying to keep his family where they are now but they are losing everything. So this is what causes the heart attack. It was an emotional death and it allowed us to freely explore how Latinos deal with grief and loss.”
