CBS Studios unveiled a new premium drama series on Thursday The darknessa co-production between CBS Studios and Icelandic production company Truenorth and executive producers Stampede Ventures, starring Oscar nominee Lena Olin (Enemies, a Lovestory, Hunter, Chocolate, The artist’s wife, Hilma), the Oscar nominee Lasse Hallström (Chocolate, What does Gilbert Grape eat?, Hilma) is set to “Direct”.
Filming of the six-part English-language series will begin later this year in Iceland for local broadcaster Síminn. The series reunites Olin with director Hallström in his first foray into television. The project was announced at the MIA market in Rome.
Based on the bestselling thriller series by Icelandic author Ragnar Jónasson, The darkness follows detective inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir “as she investigates a shocking murder case while dealing with her own personal trauma,” according to a plot description. “Faced with early retirement and the need to take on a new partner, Hulda is determined to find the murderer, even at the risk of her own life.”
The darkness was written by Sam Shore (CBBC’s). mystic), with Jónasson serving as executive producer. The series is distributed outside Iceland by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
