As The Wrap reports, the writer and director of “Sylvie’s love‘, Eugene Ashe has signed on to write the script for the future reboot of the 1991 superhero film that Disney+ will be developing. “The Rocket Launcher”. The news comes two years after we first heard about the project.

As we previously announced, Golden Globe-nominated actor David Oyelowo (“Selma‘) will star in the project and will also produce it with his wife Jessica Oyelowo for Yoruba Saxon as part of his agreement with Disney. The studio previously hired Ed Ricourt to write the film, which reportedly centers on a retired Tuskegee airman who takes on the role of the Rocketeer.

The film is based on the 1982 comic book by Dave Stevens. Published by Pacific Comics, Rocketeer is set in 1938 when Cliff Secord accidentally finds a backpack that can propel him at lightning speed. But the last thing on his mind is not to use the invention to save humanity or do good, but to win back his girlfriend, who accuses him of not being able to give her the glamorous life for which she was made.

The original 1991 film was directed by Joe Johnson and starred Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin and Timothy Dalton. Although the film had a large following, its theatrical release fell short of the studio’s expectations, grossing $46 million against a budget of $40 million.
