Paul Wesley on Why He Doesn’t Miss the Role of Stefan in The Vampire Diaries – The Hollywood Reporter

Paul Wesley may have won hearts with the hit teen drama the Vampire Diariesbut he admits he doesn’t miss playing the younger Salvatore brother.

During a recent interview with InStylePublished online on Thursday, the actor opened up about his role as Stefan, a cute but brooding vampire, and why he “would never harm, let alone harm, another vampire.” Vampire Diaries.”

Wesley starred alongside Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder on the series, which ran from 2009 to 2017. And while the show helped make the actor famous, he said he “didn’t really miss anything about the role.” [Stefan].”

“I don’t mean that in one [negative way],” he explained. “Eight years is a long time and I’m so glad to get that time behind me. Eight seasons.”

The series follows Elena (Dobrev) as she experiences a love triangle with two vampire brothers (Wesley and Somerhalder). But along the way, they all encounter danger and disaster at every turn in the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Wesley told the outlet that he appreciated “how dynamic” his character was throughout the show.

“Because the show ran so long, he had a different storyline each season so it didn’t get monotonous,” the actor said. “At some point he was the purest bad guy, and at the beginning he was the good guy, and at the end he was the good guy. But I liked the challenge of keeping the character fresh.”

To this day, Wesley is mostly recognized for his role on the show TVD Universe. But he admits he’s ready to part ways with Stefan, especially since he’s been involved in several other projects since then Vampire Diaries ready, incl Tell me a story And Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

“It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever done in terms of popularity,” he said. “I’ve played a lot of roles since then the Vampire Diariesbut nothing has been anywhere near as popular, so I think the next thing you need to do is find something that engages you in a conversation that you’re a part of, rather than the character you’re known to play.”

As for what’s next for him as an actor, Wesley said he doesn’t like to “just sit back and wait for roles to come to me.”

“Sometimes they do, and they’re great star trek, but sometimes I just want to go my own way,” he added. “It’s very rewarding.”
