“The Blackening” returns with a sequel

As Variety reports, Lionsgate and MRC have started developing a sequel toThe blackening‘ to bring back the original film’s screenwriters, Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. Producer E. Brian Dobbins will also return, although it is not confirmed whether director Tim Story or members of the original cast will appear in the sequel.

The film grossed $15 million at the box office, mostly in the United States, where it earned 97.5% of the total box office. It was well received by both critics and the public, with 87% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 85% from the public.

The film centers on a group of friends who meet for a weekend getaway where they soon find themselves in a remote cabin with a perverted murderer. Will their street smarts and horror movie knowledge help them stay alive? Probably not.

Starring Antoinette Robertson, Dewayne Perkins, Sinqua Walls, Grace Byers, X Mayo, Melvin Gregg, Jermaine Fowler, Yvonne Orji and Jay Pharoah, the film was produced by Marcei A. Brown, Jason Clark, E. Brian Dobbins, Tracy Oliver and Tim Story , Sharla Sumpter Bridgett and Vicky Story.
